Private Lessons

A private hour of instruction with one of our instructors can be used to teach any skill we offer in other courses. Check out all the course descriptions below.

Puppy Kindergarten

Start your puppy off right in a completely off-leash puppy class designed to introduce the foundations of obedience while ensuring your pup develops socially into a well-mannered dog. This course emphasizes teaching bite inhibition and helping owner’s problem solve other “problem” puppy behaviors like housetraining. In puppy kindergarten your puppy will be rewarded primarily with PLAY!

Rock Star Puppy

This program is designed to set your puppy up for success and keep your puppy on-track during its first year of life. Our experience in working with owners and their puppies is that after puppy kindergarten our puppy clients want to continue their dog’s education. We developed our rockstar puppy program to mimic the trend we see our puppy clients follow anyway! The plan looks like this….

  • 5 1hr Puppy kindergarten group classes for socialization, obedience foundations & handling
  • 10 private lessons to strengthen obedience skills & problem solving (to be used at any point throughout the program)
  • 5 additional 1-hr group classes to solidify obedience & manners with distractions

Our goal with this program is to take you and your puppy through all of puppy hood and adolescence so by their 1st birthday you and your puppy have acquired just about every skill you need to live happily ever after! We know that sounds cliché, but there’s no better way to put it! This program can be customized to also include daycare.

Level 1 Obedience

This 5-week course is modeled after both the AKC’s canine good citizen curriculum and the APDT’s Canine Life and Social Skills Program. Many dog owners choose this class as the first step in training their dogs. This class will lay the foundation obedience behaviors required for other activities such as off-leash obedience, canine sports and other performance events. As you work with your dog you’ll discover the many benefits and joys of training your dog. Training will enhance the bond between you and your dog. Dogs who have a solid obedience education are a joy to live with-they respond well to household routines, have good manners in the presence of people and other dogs, and they fully enjoy the company of the owner who took the time to provide training, intellectual stimulation, and a high quality life. We sincerely hope that this class will be only the beginning for you and your dog. After completing this class and we hope you’ll continue training in obedience and explore the world of canine sports.

In addition to group class this course includes one private session so that your trainer can get to know your specific needs and help problem solve any behavior/training issues you are specifically encountering with your dog. It’s recommended that you schedule your private in-facility session before you begin your group class (however, this is not mandatory, your private lesson is yours to use whenever you like for six months from the date of purchase).

Level 2 Obedience (Intermediate)

This class focuses on proofing the behaviors learned in our Level 1 course and starts preparing your dog for AKC Community Canine Exam. Longer stays, more distractions, come when called with more distractions and a tighter heel are just a few of the things that we will work on improving in this class.

*Prerequisite: You and your dog must have graduated from a basic obedience class or have completed a series of private lessons for basic obedience, and can focus in a group environment around other dogs.  Please contact us if you have any questions.

Level 3 Obedience (Advanced Off-Leash)

Level 3 takes all the skills you learned in Levels 1&2 to the point of off-leash control! This course will also provide you with an introduction for what’s required should you be interested in competing in AKC Obedience with your dog.

Agility

This class is for those who have never done Agility. You have a new dog or you are a new handler.

Join us for to have fun with your canine companion running through tunnels, tires, over a dog walk and a teeter. If you and your four-legged teammate want to continue with agility after this class, we can direct you to our continuing classes. You may want to compete or just practice your skills, but we have classes for every level.

Treibball

Treibball is a sport that began in Germany to give energetic dogs some much needed mental and physical stimulation. Treibball is fun for any dog that loves to play chase games, to herd, or just use their amazing, problem-solving ability. Treibball promotes the same kind of teamwork and communication as other dog sports but does not put any physical stress on the handler or dog (it’s a low impact sport). It also builds confidence for the shy dog, and helps reactive dogs with impulse control. If you haven’t seen the game in action yet, watch the videos on the American Treibball Association YouTube channel!

Nose Work

Nose Work is an amazing new sport where you just get to do the fun part – watch your dog excel at finding things with his or her nose. Join us for this fun class! This is an intro class, where we help you and your dog get the foundation skills to excel at this sport – either in real competition or in your own backyard. Once we get enough dogs who are ready for the next level, we’ll offer more advanced classes in Miami.

The cool part about Nose Work is that you and your dog can do it anywhere – on walks, in the yard, in the house, and there is not a lot of gear, as there is with agility, and it doesn’t take a lot of space, like tracking does. Nose work is a blast! It’s great for older dogs, puppies that have finished kindergarten, dogs with joint problems that can no longer run agility, and even reactive dogs. It’s not just for particular breeds, either. No matter how big or small or smush-faced, your dog can do Nose Work!

The dogs work one at a time, and your dog can be out in the car or crated during the times when s/he’s not working. That means you’ll need to bring a crate. All dogs will be kept away from the working area when it’s not their turn. That’s why K9 Nose Work is an ideal sport even for dogs that have issues.

Intro to Canine Sports

This course is designed for you to discover what canine sports you and your canine companion enjoy the most. Each week of class you will be introduced to a new dog sport including but not limited to rally, nosework, triebball, agility, and tricks.

This course is designed for you to simply have FUN with your dog. Tricks taught in class include: Sit, Spin, Paws Up, Take a bow, Prayers, Shake Hands, Hoop Jump, Target /Touch, Fetch, Roll Over, Jump Through My Arms, Wave, Crawl, Sit Pretty/Beg, and a few more super fun tricks! Rally

For dogs with a solid obedience foundation. Dogs must have completed beginner’s obedience to be enrolled in this class. With am emphasis on heel work and off leash reliability, this course continues to strengthen the foundations of obedience through APDT Rally, an increasingly popular dog sport where dog and handler teams navigate a course with numbered signs indicating different exercises to perform such as Sit-Down-Sit, Straight Figure 8, Send Over Jump, Recall Over Jump. Teams navigate the course at a brisk, continuous performance Handlers are encouraged to talk to their dogs during performance.

DOGA = Dog + Yoga

Doga is the practice of yoga with pet dogs.

Through acts of meditation, gentle massage, and stretching, doga practitioners seek to achieve a greater harmony with their dogs.

Reactive Dog Classes

This class is for dogs that, for whatever reason, growl, bark, or lunge aggressively at other dogs. Whether your dog is being fearfully or dominantly aggressive, this six-week class for aggression will help you manage and train your dog.  If your dog reacts aggressively toward humans then you will need to schedule private training one-on-one with an instructor before taking this course.

The first class in the series is an orientation without dogs to discuss techniques for modifying and safely managing your dog’s aggressive behavior.  As a class, we will discuss the dog’s individual aggression/fear problem and do behavior modification activities with the dogs. We are very careful about safety and dogs are kept calm throughout the sessions.

In class you will be able to connect with people who are dealing with the same sort of dog issues you are.  You don’t need to be a ‘dog psychologist’ to rehabilitate your dog, but it helps to learn how to read dog’s body language to make sense of unpredictable aggression. This class will teach you techniques for minimizing/alleviating your dog’s aggression and improving the quality of life for your dog-human family, including how to safely introduce your reactive dog to other dogs. You will learn skills for teaching your dog to pay attention to you, even when there is another dog present.

Class Limit: 6 dogs.

We offer workshops on a variety of topics including new dog ownership, leash skills, breed specific classes (for terriers, bullies, herding dogs, retrievers, etc!), recall/come when called workshps and many, many more.
